Autoimmune Disease
When our immune system attacks own body parts, such condition is called as autoimmune disease. This happens when immune system recognizes our own body parts as foreign particles like bacteria, viruses, etc. or fail to recognize our own body parts as its own. It can also occur when the immune system produce autoantibodies against healthy cell or tissues.
There are more than 80 different autoimmune diseases and for many of them it’s still not clear why these happen. However, many people believe that this could be due to genetic and environmental factors or their interactions.
